The Bedford Riding Lanes Association (BRLA) maintains over 100 linear miles of riding and walking trials, through conservation land and individual landowners’ properties, on dirt roads, along rivers and through big open fields. Over 100 years old, the BRLA trail system is a gem to be treasured and is the foundation that allows Bedford to remain one of the most horse friendly communities in Westchester County.

The trail system is maintained by one part-time staff member and many volunteers; it does not receive any funds from the Town, but relies solely on donations. You don’t need to be a rider to support the BRLA; roughly half of BRLA members are supporting non-riders. But you must become a member to enjoy the trail system, whether on horseback or on foot. As a 501 (c ) 3 organization, contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable under the law. We encourage you to support the BRLA through your membership.

The BRLA hosts a number of events during the year, most of which are open to non-members, including spring and fall hunter paces with a country bar-b-q lunch, holiday caroling on the Bedford Village Green and a barn tour. As you drive around Bedford, you may see the yellow BRLA signs on trees indicating the entrance to one of the trails. The trail system often crosses roads, and these crossings are marked with horse signs. Please give horses the right-of-way if you see them waiting to cross a road.
